Beginner Sudoku Techniques

The three techniques you need for every easy puzzle and most medium ones.

  1. Naked Singles
    A naked single is a cell where only one digit from 1 to 9 fits, because the other eight already appear in its row, column or 3x3 box.
  2. Hidden Singles
    A hidden single is a digit that can be placed in only one cell within a row, column or 3x3 box, even though that cell may still have other candidates.
  3. Pencil Marks
    Pencil marks are small candidate digits written in an empty cell to track which numbers can still go there.
