Solve Sudoku from a Photo

Snap a picture of a printed sudoku and we'll read the grid and solve it. Everything runs on your device — the photo never leaves your phone or computer.

How to use it
  1. Take a photo
    Point your camera at a printed sudoku, straight on and well lit, so the grid fills the frame. Or upload an image you already have.
  2. Check the grid
    We detect the grid and read the printed digits into the board. Compare it with your photo and fix any cell that came out wrong.
  3. Solve
    Tap Solve and the empty cells fill in. The answer digits are shown in blue so they're easy to tell from the clues.

Reading a puzzle from a picture

Photographing a newspaper or puzzle-book sudoku is the fastest way to get it into a solver. The scanner finds the grid, straightens the perspective, and reads each printed digit — then hands the result to the same engine behind our sudoku solver.

Reading printed digits from a photo is never perfect, so the grid is always yours to edit before solving. If a 6 came through as an 8, just tap that cell and fix it. Want the reasoning instead of the answer? Type the puzzle into the step-by-step solver and get one move at a time.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The grid detection, digit reading, and solving all happen in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

What kind of photo works best?

A flat, straight-on shot of a printed puzzle that fills most of the frame, in good light with little glare. Angled or blurry photos are harder to read.

Some digits were read wrong. What do I do?

Tap the cell and type the correct number. Printed fonts vary, so a few misreads are normal — the grid stays editable until you hit Solve.

Does it work on handwritten sudoku?

It's built for printed puzzles. Handwriting is much less reliable, but you can always type those cells in yourself and still solve.

It couldn't find the grid.

Retake the photo straight-on so the whole grid is visible and fills the frame, then try again. You can also type the numbers in manually against your photo.
