Solve Sudoku from a Photo

Snap a printed sudoku from a newspaper or book, type it into the grid next to your photo, and solve it instantly. Fast and private — the photo never leaves your device.

How to use it
  1. Take a photo
Photograph or upload your printed sudoku so you can read it clearly on screen, right next to the grid.
  2. Type it in
Tap a cell and enter the number from your photo. The whole puzzle takes only a few seconds.
  3. Solve
Tap Solve and the empty cells fill in. The answer digits are shown in blue so they're easy to tell from your clues.

Solve a puzzle straight from a photo

Photographing a newspaper or puzzle-book sudoku and typing it in is the quickest way to solve it without losing your place in the book. Your photo stays on screen right beside the grid, so you can copy the clues across in a few seconds — then the same engine behind our sudoku solver finishes it instantly.

Everything happens in your browser, so it's fast and works on any phone. Want the reasoning instead of the answer? Enter the puzzle in the step-by-step solver and get one logical move at a time.

Photo solver FAQ

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Your photo stays on your device and is only shown on screen so you can read the puzzle. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why do I type the numbers in myself?

Reading digits from a photo reliably needs a large download and a lot of processing that drains your battery and often gets numbers wrong. Typing a puzzle in takes only a few seconds, always works, and stays fast on any phone.

What if I mistype a number?

Tap the cell and type the correct digit, or use the erase key. If the puzzle can't be solved, we'll tell you so you can check for a typo.

Can I paste a puzzle instead of photographing it?

Yes — the regular sudoku solver takes a puzzle you type or paste in and works the same way.
